A Girl Like Me
This documentary proves a very valid point. It is sad that people of the African American race cannot get along and know that beauty comes in all shades and sizes. There are groups on Facebook that lighter shades are prettier than darker shades, or natural hair is prettier than relaxed hair. It is a constant battle ever since segregation days. The lighter African Americans would have more privileges that the darker shades. Same thing goes with the baby dolls. Parents do not teach their children that they are beautiful, or for a birthday gifts friends will buy their friends and family white dolls and mess like that.
In my case for people that are for light skin and natural hair, I lose. I am of a darker complexion, and I relax my hair because it is so thick it is hard for me to manage. Another thing I noticed is that time goes in a cycle and we are going back to the natural look of things. There is nothing wrong with it, I feel that people should just accept people for who they are and not put status on how they look.

A Slip of The Tongue
This one amuses me. I like how the person used Asians instead of African Americans. It shows me that not only that African Americans have this issue but so do people of other ethnic backgrounds. It is a strong message that I feel that society should listen to. Sadly they do not because they are brainwashed by the mainstream media.
I feel that it is up to us educated and scholarly folks that we must change that way of thinking.

No Child
Now this is interesting how this film was done. Shakademic takes on this new thing of Child Left Behind. It requires that all high school students give their address to the military. I do not think that this law I fair and it is an invasion of ones privacy. So for people who live in low income neighborhoods the military can come and pick them up to join the service because it may be challenging for individuals to make a living.
It is funny how the military reps that came over to Shakademic’s lied about how they would not go to Iraq. That is why our military is so weak. Our strongest soldiers are fighting over there and they are running out of people to fight. People will do anything to get what they want.

Bits and Pieces
I felt that this one was okay. It is a different way of telling about how people live in the Muslim countries. The people that were being interviewed were saying that they are like anyone else. They way that they dress is because of the climate.
I did like that the artist was making mosaics to describe what the person was being interviewed was talking about.

A Loud Color
This one was boring to me. Hurricane Katrina did a lot of damage but the speaker, I could not understand what he was talking about. Sometimes he goes off on a tangent and I tune out what he was talking about. I also feel that this film is incomplete because with his last statement opens something else.

Hip Hop in Senegal
It is amazing how American music influences other countries, especially hip hop. They feel that Americans slander our women and degrade them, and we do with Crank that Soiljiah Boy, and Tip Drill. They feel that Americans should take their example and incorporate in to the music industry. Putting Jesus in a song does not make it a gospel and American hip hop is terrible.
I also like how they keep rapping in their own native language, not the secondary language of French. When they do their performances they wear traditional clothes and not everyday clothes. This one was interesting.
